Our glittering, silvery Doctorfish will give you a stimulating yet relaxing pedicure or manicure. Hundreds of tiny mouths gently nibble at the hard and dead skin on your hands or feet, leaving them smooth and refreshed.
Doctorfish, technical name Garra Rufa, are very small members of the carp family; they have no teeth and have been used in the Middle East for centuries to treat people’s skin and leave it feeling softer and more alive.
Our Garra Rufa Doctorfish stimulate the feet and hands, which have long been regarded as the key centres in reflexology, and are often referred to as the ‘gateways to the soul.’ Reflexology dates back to 5000 BC, and has been widely used by the Egyptians, the Indians, and the Chinese to treat a multitude of ailments and generally improve ‘wellness.’ There is a relationship between reflexology and acupuncture as they both use stimulation on dynamic meridian lines.
Does It Work?
There have been numerous claims about the benefits of Garra Rufa Doctorfish. There are stories that Psoriasis and Eczema patients have been cured after several sessions with the Doctorfish; arthritis sufferers report an alleviation of their symptoms after immersing their hands and feet in our tanks. It is also claimed that Doctorfish secrete a natural enzyme in their salvia called diathanol that helps new skin growth. Is it all true? To be honest, we don’t know for sure but there is rarely smoke without some fire, and how did these tiny, darting, silvery animals acquire their common name over the years – Doctorfish?
Whether or not those claims are true, one thing that we do know is that your feet and hands will feel smoother and softer after a session with our Doctorfish. You’ll feel like you’re walking on air.
